For Women Seeking Something More: The Wise Women Weekend, September 6 & 7 on Miami Beach.
Something for Every Woman. 5th Annual, Wise Women Weekend, a Benefit for The Advocate Program, Inc. September 6 & 7, 2003, Miami Beach
August, 2003 -- The main reason the Wise Women Weekend, September 6 & 7th at the Radisson Deauville on Miami Beach is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year is because it includes something for every woman and encompasses so much in only two days.
Women flock from as far away as Seattle and as nearby as South Beach to partake in an array of empowering and educational workshops, keynote addresses by nationally known presenters, a trade-show for women owned businesses, a community panel on current events, some meals, entertainment and, most importantly, time to rest and recharge. Special guests in 2003 include keynote speaker, Naomi Wolf and actress Erin Gray who is delivering the finale.
In addition to making a difference in their own personal and professional lives, attendees also make a difference in the lives of others, with proceeds benefiting The Advocate program in support of their efforts to combat domestic violence. Advance registration (prior to 8/22) is $275. For more information, call event producer, CenterPeace (305) 672 7759.
Naomi Wolf, author of the international blockbuster, The Beauty Myth will present the keynote address, “Women as Change Makers: Integrity, Leadership and Real Power”. Actress and victim’s advocate, Erin Gray, will present the program’s finale, “Learning to Love, Finding My Peace.” Educational workshops, facilitated by a team of 16 locally known professionals, include such topics as women’s wellness, yoga, dream interpretation, journaling, Feng Shui, relationship healing and designing a personal mission statement.
Naomi Wolf’s best-seller, The Beauty Myth, acclaimed by The New York Times as one of most important books of the 20th century, challenged the cosmetics industry and the marketing of unrealistic beauty standards. Her second book, Fire with Fire: The New Female Power and How It Will Change the 21st Century, offers concrete ways for women to change their lives for the better, encompassing personal issues to media, politics and the corporate world.
Promiscuities: The Secret Struggle for Womanhood examines the issues of the adolescent women's sexual coming of age. Misconceptions: Truth, Lies and the Unexpected on the Journey to Motherhood, is a powerful and passionate critique of pregnancy and birth in America. A Yale graduate and Rhodes scholar, Ms. Wolf co-founded the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership, an organization that trains young women to become leaders and agents of change in the 21st century. Her articles have appeared in The New Republic, The Wall Street Journal, Glamour, MS, George and The New York Times. She was a Glamour Woman of the Year and named by TIME as one of the 50 most notable leaders under age 40.
Actress and victim’s advocate, Erin Gray, best known for her numerous film and television appearances including Starman, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Silver Spoons, Police Story, began her career as the face that launched some of America’s most glamorous beauty products. What’s less known about Erin is that she is also a child survivor of domestic violence, and experience her to become a victim’s advocate and motivational speaker.
“The Wise Women Weekend offers something for every woman- health, wellness, personal empowerment, professional development, education, networking and celebrating all that women do” says founder and event producer, Karyn Altman of CenterPeace. Five years ago, Ms. Altman resigned from an 18-year career in the travel industry, after realizing that her life, and the lives of many friends, had become overwhelmed by work and stress. Rather then continue on an unhealthy path, she created the Wise Women Weekend with the intention of offering women alternatives to enjoy and enhance their lives.
2003 Wise Women Weekend key sponsors include Humana, Inc., County Line Chiropractic and North Beach Development Corporation. Community and media supporters include The Miami Herald, Entertainment News & Views, Natural Awakenings Magazine, Mass Media Enterprises, Wild Oats, Thinkholistic.com, SpiritTalk Radio, Horizons Magazine, Vive Magazine and Books and Books.
Wise Women Weekend is produced by CenterPeace, a Florida-based marketing and event management company specializing in programs focused on personal empowerment, holistic health, enhancing relationships and connecting with inner guidance.
